Week 9/29 – 10/03

This week, I looked at a couple of questions and formulated more questions based on those questions I asked and the visuals I created with R

Q: Which states have the highest number of unarmed or replica weapon cases

Q: The distribution of armed status by race

I created a map and a bar graph to represent the data

I asked ChatGPT to create the graphs I needed in R to represent the data and ask further questions

Questions I will try and ask and create visuals for next week:

Q: Does ‘armed’ status vary more by race or by region

Q: Do some races show a broader age range in fatal encounters

Q: Is poverty correlated with higher total shootings or higher unarmed proportions?

Q: Are states with larger Black or Hispanic populations showing different correlations?

These questions focus more on race and location

Week 9/22 – 9/26

This week, I looked at the following question and made a visual to go along with the question:

Q: What is the number of armed/unarmed cases by state

I asked ChatGPT to create a bar graph using R

The graph showed that California had the most cases and Wyoming had the least

I used this data to ask other questions and create a map showing which areas had the most cases.

Week 9/15 – 9/19

This week, I will attempt to use R Studio to create graphs and histograms to answer the following questions and upload them for next week.

  1. “Are certain threat types more common among specific racial or age groups?”
  2. Are high-poverty counties more likely to have cases involving unarmed or replica weapons?
  3. Do Hispanic vs Black vs White victims show different distributions of threat types?

Week 9/8 – 9/12

This week I analyzed the data, developed some questions and even started to create data from the excel sheet.

Questions:

A couple of questions that I came away with while looking at the data:

– What are the qualifications to use lethal force for each police station

– What were the repercussions for the officers when they killed the person

– Are certain threat types more common among specific racial or age groups

– How many people were listed as unarmed at the time of the shooting

– Are unarmed individuals more likely to belong to certain demographic groups

– What percentage of people shot by police while holding a replica weapon were under the age of 25

Data:

I used to data the answer one of the questions;

What percentage of people shot by police while holding a replica weapon were under the age of 25

Creating a pivot table this is what I found:

The total amount of people shot while armed with a replica was 146, of those about 20.8% were under 25 years old
